How can i get better at sight reading on piano?

initialxd asked:

I've been playing piano for a year but every time i try to learn a new song, I'd have to write the letters over the notes on the sheet music.

it takes about 2 days to learn a page. But since i practice the song so much, I end up memorizing the page. So if someone were to put sheet music in front of me, I'd be very slow at reading it.

What's the best way to improve on this and get faster?

playing piano with two hands?

Sebastien B asked:

I can play with two hands, but not like a lot of people say. My problem is playing a bass and a melody at the same time, either the bass gets to fast and i mess up the meledoy or if its a complicated song i hit the bass the same time im playing the melody and its really confusing to me. i cant read sheet music so ive pretty much just learned songs from youtube. How can i play a bass and melody at the same time without messing up? is this a common problem?

How to improve more quickly at piano?

fled asked:

I am 13 and just started piano a couple months ago, and I really like it. I practice for 45 minutes to an hour almost every day and have a lesson once a week. But I'm moving really slowly, can hardly read sheet music, and am still on beginner books. I want to improve so I can play songs that I really like, but I'm not getting much better. And there's this girl I know who has only been playing piano for a year, but can already play songs like Fur Elise. What can I do to get better? Is there any way I can improve faster? Thanks!

how can i read music faster? radiohead question too?

SidewalkerTexasRanger asked:

i read somewhere that every member in radiohead except thom yorke can read music and the guitarist jonny greenwood writes film scores and stuff. i was self taught in reading music and playing cello/bass but i recently started playing piano about a year ago. the teacher usually plays the song and lets me listen to it before i play it and most of the problem i have is read rhythm. so do you think over time i can write down the songs that i make?
