what excercises should i do to train my fingers to play faster? i have one and use my metronome.

i know everything takes time, i'm doing everything slowly, but what should i do to be able to be good?

I play alto sax and I really want to try out for state this year and they only take three altos. I think if I practiced my music a lot and really hard I might be able to make it but I'm scared that if i do get there the other music will be like, insane and I won't be able to play it cause I haven't practiced for months like i did the tryout music. Plus, I just need to get better at sight reading in general. I know all my treble cleff notes up and down (I only need to know treble cleff for sax), so that's not the problem. It's just sometimes the notes get jumbled up in my brain and my fingers won't move fast enough, and I can't always get the rhythms right.

Music is a language. It has it's own alphabet, it has it's own syntax, and with it you can communicate complex information.

In recent years this language has been diluted and fewer people can actually read music and/or lack the language to discuss even basic theoretical musical ideas.

Imagine a parallel with your own language,.. I often imagine what it would be like if very few people could read or write english, but yet they were the same people in charge of bringing us the news, or the movies we watch, our TV programs, educational & scientific programs,.. Would the world be what it could be,..or should be?

Whether you know it or not, in the world of music, this is happening.
