Do brilliant musicians who cannot read music, sometimes wish they could?

70s Disaster Movies Rock asked:

Just curious. I've 36, been a piano student for over seven months, and feel that I'm at a disadvantage for having to read music to be able to play it (although reading music comes really easy to me and, according to my piano instructor, I'm a very fast learner).
The only two songs I can play by ear (without looking at the music) are For The Beauty of the Earth and the first page of Stairway to Heaven. Everything else, I have to read the music.
Have already completed Primer last year and I'm just about to complete Level 1 in a just a couple of weeks or less.

What is one of the hardest things about learning to read music and play a musical instrument?

Santa Claus(e)-The pianist. asked:

I am teaching myself to play the piano(keyboard) and I am doing a good job I have
1)Mastered all the notes found in the white and black keys on the piano and learned to walk up to the piano and say each note name.
2)Mastered naming and counting intervals
3)mastered major scales(example) the 5th note of the A major scale is E.
4)I know all the letter notes for the treble and bass staffs and clefs.
I know too much about piano and I am not going to stop learning new things.
