What is a college level ‘Music Appreciation’ class?

EmTay21 asked:

I have to fill up 3 more credit hours (I will be a Sr. and I just need to take credit classes b/c I have all my majors.) I go to a smaller university and there are limited classes to take. I was thinking about music appreciation but I know nothing about music. I don't know how to read music either. What cirriculum is a standard (intro) music appreciation class?

Will Music colleges even look at me if I can’t read music?

Zach The Riffer asked:

I know, this is kind of a stupid question... since I should probably know how to read music anyway.... but anyway, I learn almost all of my music by ear or watching someone play. I rarely ever use tabs, the cheap sheet music. So I was wondering, I want to do something with music, maybe even educational, would a music college even consider someone who doesn't know how to read music, or do most of them require the skill of music reading? I'm also kind of worried about applying to colleges for music because of so little careers that involve a degree in music. So if anyone has a degree in music, please tell me of your opportunities......... College is this fall for me, so I'm sort of stressing, any help would be wonderful, thanks.

i really dont feel like learning sheet music just want to become successful and got to college will they still except me?

even if i would have to learn how to read music to go to college is it too late cuz im goin to be a senior in high school and next september ill be goin to college?

what is the course-load for a music business major?

5dfggf4f asked:

I was looking at Fredonia's music business program and found this:

http://www.fredonia.edu/som/musicbusiness.htm

I also found something that said I needed to have some musical ability, be able to read music, and I will have to take music and instrumental classes. Is anyone here a music marketing/merchandising/business major and able to tell me what I need to take? I can't really play any instrument and don't know how to read music.

What is your opinon about getting a degree in Music and English Literature?

Jesse asked:

i am interested in these two things. Though, I'm fully aware that it's gambling.

I'm wondering what your opinion is about getting degrees in these two areas?
(I'm very in touch with music, i've been playing the piano for 9 years, so I know how to read music and do all that kinds of stuff. For the piano.)
