Sight Reading Music
My first question is, do you read treble or bass clef? Some people may find either treble or bass easier to read depending on their instruments. But I will go for treble clef since it’s used most of the time.
so, there are 5 lines. starting below the lines, that’s where C is with the leger line. If you have a note just below the last line, that is D. then you start alternating. As you go up, the notes are placed on the line or between the lines. and if you run out of line, that’s when you start adding leger lines. Sorry, i’m not good at explaining and it may be confusing but hope it helps. or probably use manuscripts to help you understand.

Ok. Music is like this. When notes are higher on the staff, they are higher. When notes are lower on the staff, they are lower. So to find where to fret a note, you start with a known line or space. Count up or down (abcdefg, over and over) until you arrive at the mystery note. Then start with where you would fret the known note, and again count up or down until you would find the mystery note. (Don’t forget that on guitar 1 fret is a half-step, so you need two half steps, or two frets, to go from A to B, for example.)
