  1. Caffeinated Content

go to the music store and ask them for a tab book

  2. Caffeinated Content

splurge $20 and get yourself a lesson with a music teacher would be your best bet. honestly, it’ll save you a lot of trouble if you just sit down with someone who knows for an hour or so and let them give you an overview. At least it’ll give you a solid starting point to explore further. :-)
or find a friend who knows and ask them to give you a few hints.
    or buy a book!

or you might even try to get some music to some popular songs and then a list of music terms and their definitions and try to follow along as you listen to the song….just taking note of how the notes change on the staff, etc…

(ps-being able to read tabs isn’t the same as reading music!)

Always start with the basics. Get a child’s book on learning piano or guitar. Study the basics over and over. When you have mastered a lesson and are ready to go to the next lesson take a break for the rest of the day. When you start your practice session repeat the lesson you mastered before starting the next lesson.

Here is how I learned the bass guitar with Mel Bay book 1:
    Day 1: Learn lesson 1
Day 2: Play through lesson 1 and learn lesson 2
Day 3: Play through lesson 1 and 2 then learn lesson 3
    etc.

It worked for me. It takes practice and patience. Hang in there!
