People who know how to read music or play guitar can you help me?
dylan asked:
I just started to learn how to read music and im learning guitar and my question is, with a whole beat would you hit the string four times or just play it for four beats. And the same thing with a half beat (2beats). Anything helps and thanks!

Whole note gets 4 beats.
Don’t hit the string four times.
The same goes for half notes and quarter notes.
Half notes=2
Quarter notes=1
etc.

Just hit it once. If you were supposed to hit it four times then the music would have four one-beat notes.

Yeah what Will the Guitar Guy said is correct. Also another thing you want to know if you already dont is the way you count rhythm. Surprisingly I have met a lot of people that dont know this.
So for the common four beats in music its 1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4…
those are quarter notes if a note is played on each number.
then for eight notes its counted as 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & 1….
then four sixteenths its 1 e & uh 2 e & uh 3 e & uh 4 e & uh 1…
I spelled the uh phonetically but its actually written as an “a”

You play a whole note one time for a length of four beats.
You play a half note one time for a length of two beats.
