how can you call talking fast to a beat, music? Rap?

Stevie Wonder cant read sheet music either. Neither could Ray Charles. I think they are/were musicians.

Look up the word music in the dictionary. “Vocal or instrumental sounds possessing a degree of melody, harmony, or rhythm.” is one definition.
Fact: Rap is music
Would it make a difference to you if all Rappers could play an instrument? I think not.
Some Rappers can play instruments; you would know that if you actually tried to educate yourself.

You actually think that MTV is a good source. Take a look at The Roots (they have a MC, Drummer, Guitarist, an Electric keyboard player and a Percussionist) or Wyclef (who plays five instruments including the piano, keyboard, guitar and the accordion). The media does control your perceptions and that is very sad. U would think that someone into Rock would understand; all Rap is not the same just as all Rock is not the same. Some Rock vocalist don’t play an instrument, and some Rap vocalist don’ t play an instrument. If a Rap artist does play an instrument it is up to him (or the record label) if he chooses to put it in his video.

you dont know that …..and thats their style… how can you call screaming to a beat music (which black people made ex. Run DMC), or scatting to a beat music (which black people made) or talking about how your dog left you (which was originally blues but transferred into country/western) music? you cant… most rappers create their beats in order to do that you will need a piano or some other instrument… and most likely a music sheet…….. there you go (pick your face off of the floor)

The thing is that, not all rap music is made from computers. A lot of rap today, has instruments in it, but you are too stupid to hear it. You just judge.The thing is, it takes a lot of talent to actually be able to rap, my bf raps and he is a god when he raps. i bet if he were out there right now, you would listen to it. Also, how do you know if rappers cant read sheet music, my bf can.
What is screaming into a microphone and yelling words to a beat, even music, but people love that. I get sick and tired of people always getting on here and talking s*hit about things they dont know about. before you go ahead and talk s*hit, make sure you know the facts first.

There are many artists who play instruments…
If you dont listen to Rap truthfully or dont like it, why would you even care????

I think if you were to spit over a beat, make it rhyme, make sense, flow to the beat, go with the rhythm plus, remember your lines( most real rappers don’t need to memo rise lyrics off a sheet, they know it in there head already) ever heard of free styling? Rappers don’t need to read sheet music unless they’re playing an instrument!! Rap is a form of poetry but with a beat and many different sounds- therefore it IS considered a type of music genre. That’s what it’s all about. The only singers who read sheet music are opera singers. If there is no beat and only someones voice, then it’s considered acapella. This question is pointless. What are you trying to imply by saying most rappers can’t read sheet music? why do you have to classify those specific people as “can’t read sheet music”? ..who reads sheet music? obviously the rappers band not the rapper..everyone in this world is different therrfore, we listen to different types of music to soothe our minds.
music is a collection of sounds put together..there are about 100 different genres of music my friend. So since rap has a voice and a beat- it is music! even banging spoons on a table is music!! And some rap songs do have instruments the beats in rap can be classified as drums..and so what if they work in a studio! every music artist works in a studio, welcom e to technology of the 21st century!

If you knew anything, a simple tap on a desk is music, you don’t have to have talent to do that, To make a good beat that sells you do, to keep up with that beat a spit rhymes to it, you have to have talent. I think rap is similar to singing just faster. Some singers can’t read sheet music or play an instrument. Music doesn’t necessarily have to have instruments and stuff to me; just a beat.
