Is there a program that can write music for you?
lily asked:
I just figured because I saw the Ipad commercial and it has a girl playing piano on sheet music for the Ipad. Is there an App or another system where you can plug your piano in, play, and it will write music for what your playing?

The beatles never knew how to read music, they did it by ear, I'm sure this would allow musicians that go by ear to put their songs on paper.
Thanks

Learn How to Read Music
Finale can do this using a midi hookup from your keyboard to the computer. There are several versions which vary in cost; the least expensive one that can input music is Finale Notepad, which runs around $10.

Learning How to Read Music Notes
If programs like Finale are too expensive for you, try breaking this up into two steps, by first recording your instrument into a sequencer (there’s several freeware ones around – if you have a Mac you already have GarageBand, which is excellent). The sequencer will produce a MIDI file for you, then use a freeware music notation program to load the MIDI file and output printable sheet music from it.
Sorry for not mentioning more freeware programs for either to try, the ones I use are no longer available or not for free… google will help there.

There are several programs that will let you create your own music using the computer. I use a program called FL Studio. It has a piano feature that lets you compose music with any instrument. You can do it all on the computer or plug in a keyboard that has a usb connection if you want to record and play live.
You can download the demo of the program here:
If you like the program and want to buy the full version, you can get it for 10% off from the official store here:
Hope this helps. Good luck with your music!
