What are some tips on how to read music? (trumpet)?
Adrian M asked:
I've been playing trumpet for 2 years now, and i'm pretty good, it's just that I need help with the fingerings/reading music. I usually write down the notes/fingerings down on the paper, but I wanna read it with out writing it down. It takes me a while to read the note and decide what the fingering is. I already know all the fingerings for all the notes (including flats and sharps) but it just takes me a while to read it off the page. (I know, I keep repeating myself.)

It’s just a matter of doing it for an hour, every day. Your brain and fingers will both learn to recognize them faster and faster, until you’re reading without having to write the fingerings down.
Practice makes perfect.
If you have trouble just identifying the note on the staff (i.e. looking at the note, and knowing it’s “F#”, or what have you), then you would benefit from daily sessions with note flash cards. Use them for several minutes every day, and after a couple weeks, you won’t have to stop and think what the note it.
