   you should definitely start w/ learning to read music before playing, it makes it so much easier to learn any instrument. when i learned to read music for choir it made it so easy to learn piano & guitar

   Readnig music is like being able to read and write. If you can sing only it’s like being able to tell a story, but not be able to write it down for someone else to enjoy or read someone else’s work.

   Even basic reading allows you to share a common language with other musicians from all over the world. I suggest basic keyboard skills for everyone. Learn the layout of the piano, basic notation and if you are a guitar player how to read both tabs and chords.
