yep i agree. you know it is proven that to be a “master” at something it takes 10,000 hours of practice. by 1963, the beatles had already had that time. imagine how effortlessly music comes to paul today?

george martin, took care of scoring music, and all the orchastrations, the fabs like so many other great musiians, had the heart, had the soul , and had the knack for hitting the right combination of notes to make great long lasting songs, and with the help of george martin’s classical backround, the rest is history, when people put their heads together isn’t it great

that is right.
the great majority of great song-writers dont know partitures, and all the classic symbols of music notation…
they have an amazing sense of harmony, somehow they “find” the melodies, they know the guitarr or the piano, they are creative, they ear a lot, they love music a lot, they are inventive.. And then they record, or make also theire own notation ( on paper, or just in memory ..)

Grade 5 level? You mean, like, 5th graders? as in 10 and 11 years olds? If you don’t possess the gumption to cross that speedbump then you must not want to go very badly, Need to work on your grammar and puncuation as well.

you don’t need to read music play/compose any type of music . It’s just for sharing it with someone else on paper. Music notation was invented to write down what musicians were doing, not so musicians would know what to do.

You dont need to read to play pop music……just learn how to play chords (which kind of is learning the structure of music anyway). But imagine if Beethoven or Chopin never learnt. Different types of music requires different skills. You could be the most awesome electronic musician in the world and not be able to play any instrument or read or do anything.

My humble opinion is there is no connection between the ability to read or write music and the ability to create music. Using music sheets can be helpful when working with other musicians, especially session musicians, but that’s about it.

wow i am so bad at reading music but this makes me feel so much better. not that i think i’m going to be a musical genius or anything, but it just tells you, you don’t have to be able to read music to be a good musician!

You are really naive if you think that he can’t read music. All the top musicians can but its bullshit. Of course they can. It makes them seem like more a genius if they say they can’t.

Press: Is it true none of you can read or write music?
Paul: None of us can read or write music. The way we work is like, we just whistle. John will whistle at me and I’ll whistle back at him.
It wasn’t in this video…but it’s related. XD

some of the best musicians in history and present day can’t read music, a lot of musicians just do it on feeling. because if you don’t know the rules, you don’t play by them. therefore you can make much more original sounding music.

reading music is important and i wonder why a musician like him isn’t even interested in learning it. Reading music opens up so many doors in terms of understanding the fundamentals and being able to play great things. He’s an amazingly talented man, but its a little sad that he’s only interested in playing the music he writes, because without reading that makes it so hard to study other great works
