Why is my music manager is no longer reading my MP3 player ?

I havent been able to place music on my player because the music manager program that connects to it, hasnt been connecting and reading it. What could be the problem ?
Or vice versa, by MP3 wont connect to my music manager ? Because when I first connect it, the MP3 reads "Accessing Data" then it switches to the battery charge symbol and nothing happens. Normally when it says "Accessing Data" thats when the program connects.
